The Colorado River of Texas has long been a source of life - physical, spiritual, economic, and otherwise - to the central region of the state. Today, as population blooms, our natural resources are becoming economic, industrial, and environmental commodities, none more important than water.

As it courses its way through the state, this river picks up ever larger suitors who would have all of it if they could. With their peculiar definition of conservation - that, in order for there to be conservation, there must be utilitarian purpose - the Colorado River is infiltrated by straws. There are straws for those who would water their crops, manufacture their microchips, or sail the reservoirs. All the while, this resource, this river, is balanced by politics and money.

The future of Central Texas may be determined by the fate of this river, it is that powerful. And not unlike this situation, in this small part of the world, water - quality and quantity - throughout the world will determine the fate of nations.
