Alps Landscapes

84 images Created 30 Aug 2010

The Alps (German: Alpen; Italian: Alpi; Lombard: Alp; French: Alpes; Romansh: Alps; Slovene: Alpe) are one of the great mountain ranges of the world. Arcing through Europe, they stretch from Austria and Slovenia in the east; through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany; to France in the west.

The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc, at 4,810.45 metres (15,782 ft), on the Italian-French border.

The Alps are known for their glaciers, ski resorts, alpine meadows, wildlflowers, serrated ridgelines, and, of course, iconic peaks like the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Eiger, and Jungfrau.
